A lady fuscate (cardinal) says, "Acvfvckes." (I'm happy.)
An American Indian citizen of Muscogee (Creek) Nation raised in Edmond, Oklahoma, and New York City transplant from 2008 to 2022, I have returned to Oklahoma with my husband to raise our daughter. My creations come from the heartfelt urgency to preserve the Muscogee language and our family heritage in the most beautiful and enduring way I possibly can.
Handsewn beadwork and acrylic on canvas. All works incorporate the Muscogee language, and most titles contain an interval class for music improvisation.
I want to see Muscogee expressions appear perfectly natural outside Indian country, recognizable to non-Natives, and embraced in art and fashion -- to create the world I wish to gift my daughter.
